Sprint statring WiMAX in Baltimore in September

Published by technews at 7:19 am under WiMax Edit This

6-18-08wimax.jpgDan Hesse, Sprint CEO has made a appearance at NXTcomm08 show and stated that the Sprint is working on launching the first commercially-available WiMAX network in Baltimore this September and at the same time the will expand the trial service currently operating in Chicago and Washington DC by the end of the year. Hesse has also spoke about Sprint’s mobile data strategy, particularly the 4G plans. The Sprint CEO said that demands for higher capacity on wireless networks were exceeding the industry’s ability to match it with current 3G technologies. Only 4G, and particularly WiMAX given its several-year time-to-market advantage over competing technology Long Term Evolution, can provide the bandwidth at the low cost necessary to support that demand as well as the new embedded-consumer electronics business models Sprint and Clearwire plan.
